Tales of 1st grade

All of the emotions I was quickly having were subsided by the business of Trey's first week of school. The weeks of searching for supplies was finally over, only to be followed by a note home the first day that he needed MORE supplies! I have now totally over committed myself by taking on room parent- although I think I will have a ton of help from other parents in the class. What was I thinking?? Apparently I wasn't.  I had a lunch date with Trey's teacher, and she seems to be great and super creative- which clearly, I love! The first few days getting anything out of him was just not going to happen.

Me- "Trey how was your day"
Trey- " good"
Me- "who did you sit by at lunch"
Trey- "Aidan"
Me- "Did you make any new friends"
Trey- "mom do you have to ask all these questions?"

Lucky for me, more info came flowing as the week went on! He took his bow and arrow out one morning and said he was the president of the Junior Bow and Arrow Club?! I didn't know if I should laugh or praise him for his leadership HA! He was joking, but then Saturday night told me of another "club" he was in. This one sounded a little more believable. "mom, Aidan, Sam, Jonah, and I are in the burp club. We can burp our ABC's." If you know me, you KNOW I don't. do. burps. I think it's rude and disgusting! When I was pregnant and someone would burp, I would throw up. This is dramatic. Serious. This may just possibly encourage Trey more. Yes, that's where we are at. If it bothers me, he does it! He is "testing the first grade waters"- or at least that is what I am calling it.

I made our first "chore chart" yesterday. Sent home with the bundle of paper work to fill out last week was a "parent assessment". I had to rate how well Trey knew things such as the value of coins, etc but also his social/ behavioral patterns. One question asked how often he completed chores on his own.. Whoops.... not often is the answer to that one! So we started out simple on the chart. Brush teeth without being told, put clothes in the hamper, no whining during homework, etc. If he gets so many star stickers for doing these things he will get a prize at the end of the week.

Yesterday was the finale of our paperwork to be returned by today at the school. Trey had to fill out a three page questionnaire- " all about me." It was a struggle! There was a lot of writing on Trey's part, and he absolutely hates to write. He was trying to answer with short answers and by the end of it we were arguing like crazy. The very last question was "what is one thing you would like me to know about you?" Without skipping a beat or asking me how to spell a thing he wrote "I love my mom." I am tearing up again writing it. He is such a sweet soul. I took a picture with my crappy camera, but it didn't turn out too well... you get the point though :)

Stay tuned for more Tales of the 1st grade!
